Whether you own a performance boat, a fishing boat or a houseboat, Hawkeye Marina has the space to suit your needs. In addition, the facility invites guests to dock their personal watercraft, canoes, kayaks and pontoons in one of its 104 covered slips and come ashore to enjoy live music, contests, cold drinks and dinner with a view.
The marina’s dockside amenities include fuel, overnight slips, boat repairs and service, pumpout, electrical hookups and a courtesy pier. There’s also a private shower house with restrooms available to marina guests and transients.
Renovations and Fun
The Hawkeye was rebuilt in 2008 after being purchased the year prior (back when it was known as Arrowhead Marina). Renovations included new buildings, a new boat ramp, custom lighting all around the marina and new landscaping. Today, it prides itself on its clean, modern layout. Other recent additions include nine new seasonal RV spots to accompany nine existing spots — for a total of 18 — with full hookups and private bathrooms equipped with showers.
A large deck with a bar and plenty of seating makes up the waterfront side of the marina, which overlooks the bluffs along the river. Under the deck is a sand-covered beach that extends down to the water. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available.
For those who enjoy waterborne competition, Hawkeye hosts local fishing tournaments, poker runs and personal watercraft runs. Other popular activities at the marina include kayaking, paddleboarding, camping and hiking.
Jeff Becker, sales manager for the marina’s boat sales’ division, said the marina is a top dealer for Baja, Eliminator, Crownline and Bennington. Hawkeye Boat Sales carries other brands as well, including Regal, Malibu and Axis. The marina has a ramp to launch your boat or to test drive one of theirs.
For those looking to break away from the marina for the day, the city of Dubuque has a variety of events and sites to take in during your stay. There are nearby casinos, a shopping mall, bars and restaurants, hotels and other boat recreation venues in the area.
Getting There
To reach Hawkeye Marina by water, head westbound from the main channel along the south side of the berm. Stay in the middle of the channel and follow harbor sign. The marina is located about five miles above Lock and Dam 11.
If you plan to take a vehicle to the get to the marina, drive approximately eight miles north from downtown Dubuque. Take Highway 52 from Central Avenue and go north, where you will turn right onto Sherrill Road, followed by another right onto Mud Lake Road. Take a left onto Golf Lake Road, and the marina will be just ahead.
